About SCMF

SCMF was formed in 2003 to support Church Music Directors, Choirs, Singers, Organists, Clergy, Instrumentalists and all who lead worship. It began with workshops in the City of Brighton and Hove and now operates throughout Sussex. SCMF appreciates that it is sometimes difficult to maintain a consistent standard of church music from week to week, yet it is an important part of ministry and mission, crossing boundaries of tradition and denomination.

Cultural change can militate against musical growth, especially where resources are limited. Families have become geographically dispersed and many no longer live and work in one place. There are new attitudes to authority and commitment and tensions from liturgical reform. Amidst all this, SCMF encourages church music to flourish whilst embracing change and a respect for tradition.
